how sickdelicious are these shoes? paris based designer raphael young showed them for fall 09 and every single design is appropriate for your local super hero. the collection was inspired by futuristic elements but i think they are entirely suitable for sexy crime fighting.

sister sister
thailand line sretsis (sisters backwards…get it) has produced a FIERCE Spring/Summer 09 collection entitled “School of Rebellious Sweethearts” featuring tailored suits, mini-dresses and lots of stripes and skintight denim. while nothing is revolutionary it is all flirty, edgy and totally wearable. what makes the three sisters behind the line even cooler? they opened a new york style lounge in bangkok; completely out of place and totally unexpected. these stylish dames and their equally hip line are giving the far east (and beyond) a run for its money.

phantogram.
every once in awhile i stumble upon something actually cool in my current residence of hartford, ct. akin to finding a $20 bill on the street, discovering rad music is such an unexpected treat. enter phantogram.
the saratoga springs duo, comprised of sarah barthel and joshua carter, creates music that is self-described as ” a culmination of unique street beat rhythms, and psychedelic melodies with combined technology and organic textures.” i could not have said it better myself.
phantogram played a small venue called sully’s pub (inappropriately named as it conjures up images of dark wood paneling and old men) which exists as this odd park street tiki bar haven for the hipster crowd of hartford. phantogram played inside a small dark room with a bar which created an intimate setting, unarguably the best for live music. (i am kicking myself for not bringing my camera, trust me.)
their set was vibrant, electric and groove-inducing. singer sarah was absolutely darling in cage heels, skinny jeans, a white tank and this super sleek cleopatra coiff. (which i am in love with and must find her stylist asap) her voice was ethereal and combined with mr. carter’s jamming presented a fresh, crisp sound with soul. all in all the experience was over way too soon.
phantogram is coming (with the noisettes) to rock and roll hotel in dc on august 12th. if you dig good music which all the cool kids haven’t started listening to (but will shortly) then go.

Oh Alexander McQueen
Alexander may be my fashion God. Who else could come up with a knuckle clutch complete with skull rings or turn a hub cap into a chic headband as seen in his fall/winter 09 collection, “Everything but the Kitchen Sink.” This collection is as good as it gets from hounds tooth suits to Pollock inspired gowns. Every time I re-watch the show I fall more and more in love. And as much as I hate to admit it, I can’t stop think about how my life would be complete with an Alexander, haute couture masterpiece.
E-Gads!
because i haven’t raved about theselby enough. australian photographer jonathan zawada compiled this poster from the many interior shots on the website. limited run of 275 posters all signed and numbered will be on sale on the website starting tomorrow. zawada’s practically giving these away ($25) so you can bet my bum will be parked in front of a computer, credit card in hand.
elegy…
first off, every girl has a girl crush…even if they say they don’t, trust me they do. for quite some time i was on the fence between kat von d. and one penelope cruz. after watching elegy tonight, penelope’s 2008 flick opposite ben kingsley, she has stolen my heart. truly, elegy (greek for poem of mourning) is a rare film that is equal parts indie/artistic/dark/poetic/inspiring. cruz plays a 24 year old student, consuela who falls in love with her professor, played by the aged kingsley. kingsley falls head over heels gaga for consuela (can we blame him?) and begins an obsessive downwards spiral. ignoring the feminist undertones, which i dug, (isn’t it always the chick who turns psycho?) this film captured the frantic compulsion of someone truly, madly, deeply in love with the unattainable. kingsley and cruz played their roles beautifully and their chemistry was undeniable. the film was filled with love, sadness, beauty and angst…all i could ask for on a wednesday night.
i’ll leave you with my favorite quote which i rewinded the film to copy:
“beautiful women are invisible. we never actually see the person. we only see the shell. we are so dazzled by the outside that we never make it inside.”
fancy bedding.
i wear more black than helena bonham carter in the harry potter movies, which is fine during the winter, but come summer i start to look like i belong on that goths in hot weather blog. james perse has been instrumental in my black summer wardrobe. his super effortless sundresses come in my most favorite color and are always comfy and appropriate for 90 degree weather (thank you, dc). so, lo, imagine my delight upon learning about JAMES PERSE BEDDING. sure, the duvet is $475, but being able to sleep on james perse jersey is worth it since i’m a fancy princess. maybe a goth princess, but fancy nonetheless.

striking my fancy…
after i checked out george gorrow’s killer shades i had to check out his denim line: ksubi. needless to say…i’m in love.
justin von der fehr makes two products; this wallet and a belt. both exquisite and both (almost) as beautiful as something made for a woman.
when I am really stressed out I close my eyes, picture myself in a monochromatic white bedroom, and envision vases filled with hydrangeas
browsing french vogue’s haute couture shoe slideshow. these valentino’s are powerful.
newfound guilty pleasure: I live vicariously through the party shots on the cobrasnake. not entirely sure what the cobrasnake is exactly about…but entirely sure I don’t care.
washington dc dj’s who put together rad soul/funk mixtapes for the enjoyment of just about anybody. can we say generous?
