drink this: tactical nuclear penguin

a new beer has come out from my favorite brew company, brewdog brewery. you may remember them for their beloved punk ipa. but the two geniuses that started this brewery have now come up with the strongest beer in the world, the tactical nuclear penguin, which ranks in with an ABV of 35%. yes, 35!!!. this beer has apparently been “frozen by penguins for 3 weeks at an ice cream factory resulting in the world’s strongest ever beer (ever).” this crazy little beer even comes with a warning on the label that “it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance,” which is exactly the way we prefer to drink here at capslock. now i advise you all to go out and get your hands on one of these and experience all that it has to offer. cheers loves.

drink this: hop juice.

So, Hop Juice is this crazy little beer that I was introduced to in a bar in Söder Stockholm (basically all the cool kids hang there). It is an IPA with a high hops content that brings the alcohol level close to 10%. That’s some sick shit. It tastes perfectly bitter and a little fruity in all of its hoppines. You better try to get your hands on one and sample it soon, for it was only released once in 2009 due to the lack of hop availability (very sad, I know).

drink this: dulce

while enjoying a terrace party here in Sevilla yesterday evening, this capslock was introduced to a tasty little libation that has left my tastebuds in disbelief.  gecko caramelized vodka just recently came to market here in Spain, and it is causing big waves in the boutique beverage business, and with good reason.  think caramel, but liquid, not too sweet, and no alcoholic bite.  perfecto.

there is currently no US importer, but if you find yourself in the European Union, you can take a bottle back home for a mere 9,90€.  it will be the perfect compliment to your realization that the dollar is getting weaker and weaker with every overseas juant.

Snakes in DrinkCandy Necklaces and Googley Eye RingsCandy Scattered Bar TopBar DrummerBar11 Tile

Tucked between the houses of a quiet street on Pittsburgh’s south side is a bar experience unlike any other, Bar 11. Without fail you will find bartenders dressed as anything from mad scientists to hot dogs. A seemingly endless supply of candy and toys litter the bar top and intoxicated patrons play the drum set suspended from the ceiling, although what starts as playing along with the music becomes a frenzied pounding by the end of the night. Perhaps the only thing crazier than the people who work here are the themed parties they throw.  The sand covered floor, leftover from a luau, was just cleaned up for Bar 11’s craziest party, their summer rain party. And when they say rain they mean it. Don’t expect to leave the bar anything but completely soaked on this night because the water will be above your ankles. Most partiers just come out in their swim suits and the usual toy rings and soldiers are swapped for goggles and inner tubes on this night. This bar is without a doubt one of the craziest times you will ever have in Pittsburgh.

Love at the first bite.

Primanti Masterpiece

For any Pittsburgher, few things come as close to perfection as Primanti’s. Cole slaw, tomato and fries piled on top of your favorite meat or cheese makes for a sandwich fit for the City of Champions. If you need proof of its popularity, just check the mural inside the original Primanti’s shop, which includes paintings and signatures of famous Pittsburghers from Roberto Clemente and Myron Cope to George Benson. If you are ever in Pittsburgh make sure you stop to get the sandwich that is now a Pittsburgh staple.
